How it works:

1. The coach kicks the ball into A & B who contest the mark and bring the ball to the ground.

2. Four players situated on C markers are required to cover front and back of the marking contest and work the ball out of the congestion into space to have a clear kick at the leading forwards.

3. The C player carrying the ball must make a quick decision on who is the best option up forward, D or E. All C’s must follow up the kick and rove of the leading forward.

4. Either player D or E marks the ball and has a shot at goal. If the mark is dropped or the kick does not hit the target the C’s are there to crumb and goal.

Tips:

Have the drill done with high intensity, replicating game speed, which will improve a player’s ability to kick the ball to a leading forward, under pressure and at top pace. This drill can be varied, by making it shorter, longer or having the marking contest set up in different positions on the ground.

The drill can then be made harder by adding opposition players in to apply pressure to the C’s as they work the ball forward and by adding defensive players to stand the forwards.
