Danyle Pearce: Good morning, how is everyone?

It’s great that I get to blog Live with you today and I’m looking forward to hearing your questions and how you’re going with the Aboriginal Power Cup program this year.

This is a huge week for you and I hope you’re all getting as excited about the Aboriginal Power Cup carnival as I am. No doubt you will be seeing me around and I look forward to seeing some of the action this Friday and over the weekend.

To be enrolled in the APC program, I believe is a huge step for you towards gaining all those important life / work skills that you need. Playing AFL football has been my dream, but I know it’ll only last a certain time and I’m looking forward to the next chapter in my life after football. I’m currently at Uni studying teaching, so that is my goal heading forward in life.  Remember to always have a back-up plan!

So tell me what some of the things you most enjoyed this year about the APC program? I would love to hear about your success stories.

We play the Kangaroos this Sunday and I can’t wait to get on the field against them and get that all important win.

This will be the 1st opportunity for some of you to watch us play live, so I hope you enjoy yourselves and you soak up all the atmosphere.

Be cheering loud for us.

Pearcey

PS I'll be on the blog from 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm today to chat with you live ....

Heyy Pearcy, How are you Bruhh.....

Now that the Power Cup is nearly complete my favourite memory would have been playing football for JPSS and being team captian. I felt I had a lot of responsibilty and it gave me a chance to show my leadership. I also kick a goal which was a huge highlght for me as i can't really kick goals. hahaha

Signing out Chantel

I’m really excited to be blogging Live with you today and looking forward to hearing your questions and how you’re going with the Aboriginal Power Cup program this year.

You must be getting excited about the Aboriginal Power Cup carnival starting 1 week from today. I’ll hopefully be around to see you and spend some time with you and I hope you really enjoy yourself at the Port Adelaide Football Club.

I was thrilled to spend time with the students from Christies Beach and Warriappendi recently and love what this program teaches you. I particularly have an interest in this because I would like to introduce this type of program back to my homeland of Fiji and provide my people with a similar opportunity. Fantastic concept!!

I also love that you talk about your culture and you want to learn more about it. I think it’s very important that you know who you are and who your people are, which is what I like to talk about with the kids of Fiji. Keep learning as much as you can, because one day you’ll have to pass on all that knowledge to your children and grandchildren.

We’re playing the West Coast Eagles this week and I unfortunately I can’t play because of my recent knee injury, but I’m confident the boys will do well over there and hopefully we get a win.

I hope you’re all cheering for us!

D-Rod

Thanks everyone who wrote in, great questions and look forward to doing this again soon. I believe Dannyle Pearce (THIS BLOKE) will be on next week. so please keep writing, we would love to hear from you. All the best. Peace. drod.

17/06/2011

KRISTON THOMPSON:
Thanks David! I was fortunate enough to hear that when you spoke at CBHS. I asked the question because I wanted to reinforce to the students that if you have a dream/goal, you must work hard to get what you want.. That is the type of mentality that our people need to have to reach their goals.

17/06/2011

David Rodan:
Great question Kriston, There were some difficulties. B'cos of my lack of height I had to work on other area's I could control. I worked on my fitness, speed, kicking (left and right) and just made sure i didnt give them any other reason for them not to be impressed.

17/06/2011

Eloise Dreimanis:
Friendly sharks and respect for each other, fascinating.

17/06/2011

KRISTON THOMPSON:
Hey David, at Christies Beach H.S you spoke about some difficulties you faced as a teenager wanting to become an AFL Player in regards to size. What did you have to do to overcome this and increase your chances of getting drafted?

17/06/2011

David Rodan:
At first I just wanted to play with some close friends. then i grew to love it and i was okay at it too. so the decision was easy in the end.

17/06/2011

David Rodan:
hey Eloise, we dont have Totems as such. Howver I know of one of the other little Fijian Islands that worship different animals. There is one Island I know that worship the SHARK. they do not eat shark or anything that is near sharks, and have other rules. And it is believed by them that they can and will swim with sharks and sharks will never harm them. and to this day they havent been harmed.

17/06/2011

Ashley Watts:
What first made you want to become a football player?

17/06/2011

Brenda Rogerson:
Can you give a big hello to Paige from WGVC who is doing work experience down there at the PAFC : )

17/06/2011

Eloise Dreimanis:
Hey D-Rod, interesting stuff about Fijian culture following Brenda do you have totems too? and was it hard to move away from your friends and family in Suva?

17/06/2011

David Rodan:
straight back ay ya!

17/06/2011

Amy Rogerson:
love you cuz

17/06/2011

David Rodan:
appreciate the love Brenda.

17/06/2011

David Rodan:
yes, we do. All the same, however we differ from each village you travel to. I am from Suva ( Fiji capital) a little place called Lami. It is on the beach. It is also quite different Fijian people can look from each village. some would be taller, some are short and others have different color eyes. very facinating. Great question.

17/06/2011

David Rodan:
com'on peeps, waiting for your comments.

17/06/2011

Brenda Rogerson:
Can you tell us something about your Culture...do you have different groups like us. Amy and I are from the Balardung peoples of Western Australia which makes us Noongar....our totem is the yellow tailed black cockatoo..hence her tattoo on her arm.

17/06/2011

Brenda Rogerson:
Hello D-Rod...How are you? I totally agree that it is important for our kids to know as much about themselves and Culture because they will need to pass on that information in the future. I think you're too deadly and hope to nukkan ya at the Carnival next weekend : )

Hey there my people, what’s everyone up to?

It’s not long now to the APC carnival and I can’t wait to see the footy action from you mob. Like my cousin Marlon said last week, I wish I had this program at my school, as I think it’s great that you get to play footy (my favourite thing to do obviously) but you also get to learn so much about life.

This year I’ve been really conscious about living healthily and it’s definitely paying off.  I had heaps of energy for Sunday’s game against Carlton and I know it helped me play well. Unfortunately we went down, but I know we are getting close to playing some great football and beating some of the top clubs in the AFL.

I had a great pasta for tea the night before the game, made with low fat mince and lots of chopped vegies – what do you Power Cup guys think is a good healthy meal before a big match?’

I would love to hear from you and I will respond to your questions as soon as I can.

It’s time for our main training session, so I gotta go and get prepared.

Talk soon nungas

15/06/2011

Brenda Rogerson:
Hello Daniel....can't wait til next weekend for Power Cup...it's going to be "Too Deadly". In answer to your question I think anything with pasta or rice would be healthy....but I want to know.....How long before a game should you eat???

Hi, I'd like some help on my team leadership project that's based on my Researched Project and I would like to know what you think what makes a good team leader and why?

10/06/2011

Chantel Wilson:
hey, how are you?

A good healthy meal before a big match would have to be Chicken. Chicken is a great food which has a protein and a low fat content. Also mix pasta, beans or green leafy vegetables so you get a full compliment of complex carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals or a salad.

Cheers for now

I'm really excited to be blogging with you today and looking forward to hearing about your journey throughout the Aboriginal Power Cup program this year.

Marlon MotlopHow great is the Aboriginal Power Cup that you get to go to school and learn lots of useful life and work skills, as well as playing a bit of football! I wish I had this program at my school!

My advice is staying focussed at school and committed to submitting all of your curriculum tasks and doing them well. By doing this not only do you get to play in the carnival in Adelaide next month but you'll be learning things like goal setting, career opportunities, team work and the importance of a healthy lifestyle which will help you get 10 SACE credits!

Did you know I am currently studying at university in Real Estate and hoping to have a qualification within 2 years. There are a lot of players at the Power who have enrolled at Uni to undertake other courses, cause as you know, AFL only last a certain amount of time and we all have to start thinking about our futures after footy.

I really enjoyed my time with the Le Fevre and Ocean View students on the Aboriginal Power Cup school visit the other week. Who would have thought I used to get really nervous talking to an audience! I've learned by watching other people and practising that's it's not so scary, it really is just a conversation. Depending on who I'm talking to I have to use the right language and always make sure I stand up tall and proud which makes me look and feel confident.

Any way, let me know what you have been doing at school with your team mates to prepare for the Aboriginal Power Cup.

We're playing Carlton this week and I can't wait! It's going to be a good match I hope you're all cheering for us!

31/05/2011

Chelsea Treloar:

Hey Chelsea I loved playing football when i was young and i wanted to follow my cousins Shannon And Daniel to the AFL.

31/05/2011

Marlon Motlop:
Nah not going Port Augusta on Thursday cus

31/05/2011

Marlon Motlop:
Clinton I reckon it started in school and doing the right thing with my study, and also all the early nights i had when i was young and till now to prepare for footy games/training on weekends helped a lot! When recruiters interviewed me alot of them wanted to know if i was still in school and if i was doing well, and made sure i wasnt lazy with that.

31/05/2011

Brodi Higgins:
have you been selected to play this week?

and whos going to stop eddie betts?

31/05/2011

Chelsea Treloar:

31/05/2011

Caitlin Kirk:
are you gonna be in port augusta on thursday ????

31/05/2011

Brodi Higgins:
thanks :)

so what made you play for port power.

31/05/2011

Marlon Motlop:
Hi Justin, The main things to expect in AFL are training commitments week to week. You have to be punctual to rock up to meetings and trianing on time, be prepared to listen and train as best you can. Doing as much as you can do be a better footballer is a big expectation aswell. Meaning early nights and eating healthy..

31/05/2011

Marlon Motlop:
Still here Caitlin

31/05/2011

Marlon Motlop:
Hey Brodie, As a young teenager i had to make alot of commitments to football and that meant sacrificing the socializing at friends parties on weekends to prepare for football training and games.. And then making the move from my home town (Darwin) to play football, which meant i had to stop being shame and be confident around people i didnt know.. Once i got over that it was alot easier. As for training and pre seasons, I love football, and i love training, So doing extra training to get better was fun.

31/05/2011

Justin Sumner:
what kind of things do you have to expect in the AFL?

31/05/2011

Clinton A'Hang:
Thats good that you had an inspriration Marlon, how long did it take you to become whatyou are today.

31/05/2011

Caitlin Kirk:
oi! u still there budda

31/05/2011

Dwayne Wilson:
Do you need to stick to a strict diet while playing?

31/05/2011

Chelsea Treloar:
who u playin this week bruz ?????

31/05/2011

Caitlin Kirk:
so wats the gossip cuz !

31/05/2011

Elizabeth Flink:
hey bruzz whats happening :DDD

31/05/2011

Marlon Motlop:
Hi Dwayne,

Thats fine brother.. Fire away..

31/05/2011

Caitlin Kirk:
my bad bruz !

31/05/2011

Dwayne Wilson:
What level of schooling do you need to have to get drafted?

31/05/2011

Marlon Motlop:
Gday Clinton, I started playing football from an early age and had cousins make it to the AFL in Daniel and Shannon, so seeing them play on television got me excited, and pretty much kick-started my goal to make it to the AFL.

31/05/2011

Brodi Higgins:
hi

how hard was it to become a AFL football player?

31/05/2011

Caitlin Kirk:
WHERE R U CURRENTLY FROM ????

31/05/2011

Chelsea Treloar:
hey bruz.

31/05/2011

Marlon Motlop:
Yeah at first it was hard but the football club made the move alot easier, and also having family down here in Adelaide in Daniel helped aswell. Once i started playing football and making friends, it got rid of the shame factor and everything was normal from then on..

31/05/2011

Clinton A'Hang:
Why did you choose to take this path, to become an AFL player ?

31/05/2011

Elizabeth Flink:
hey

31/05/2011

Dwayne Wilson:
Hi, my name is Dwayne (from Murray Bridge HS) I am currently doing my research project on how to get drafted into the AFL. I would like to ask you a few questions if you don't mind :)

31/05/2011

Neil Johnson:
Marlon was it hard to leave your family and friends when you were first drafted

31/05/2011

Marlon Motlop:
Thanx guys..

31/05/2011

Neil Johnson:
Hopefully you fellas beat Carlton! Because us Collingwood supporters will appreciate it lol

31/05/2011

Chantel Wilson:
Good luck this weekend when you play Carlton, have fun:)

31/05/2011

Darren Coulter:
Go the Power!!!
