About Whyalla Combined Schools

Whyalla Combined is a team with students from Stuart High School (Years 8-10) and Edward John Eyre High School.

Stuart High School has approximately 300 students, including nearly 40 Aboriginal students. The school’s motto is: We will work together in a safe, caring and enjoyable environment to achieve successful educational outcomes for all students.

Edward John Eyre High School is the Senior Secondary School for Whyalla has approximately 460 students, including nearly 34 Aboriginal students. The school’s main values are Respect, Integrity & Responsibility.

Whyalla is located 396km northwest of South Australia's capital, Adelaide. The city is the largest in the Upper Spencer Gulf region, and is located on the western shores of Spencer Gulfon the Eyre Peninsula.

There is a SAASTA program operating in both schools that supports young Aboriginal people to complete their SACE. Students study Integrated Learning – Power Cup at Stuart High School and Certificate II in Community Recreation at Edward John Eyre as part of their SAASTA program.

In 2010 there will be a Whyalla Combined Boys team and a Girls team and it is their first year of involvement in the Power Cup.

Team Rules

  1. If you want to be treated fairly, treat others fairly.
  2. Self discipline is important. Be responsible for your actions.
  3. Respect others and speak in a respectful way. Verbal abuse and sledging is not OK.
  4. Communicate appropriately with team mates, coaches and mentors.
  5. Respect the rights, dignity and worth of all participants regardless of their ability, gender or cultural background.
  6. Be organised and on time for all training sessions.
  7. No inappropriate swearing.
  8. We work as a team and we support everyone in our team.
  9. It is everyone's responsibility to be organised for training sessions and all help out to get equipment ready.
  10. We will tell the teacher/coach if we cannot make a session.
