About John Pirie Secondary School
JPSS has about 640 students, including 48 Indigenous students. The Year 8-12 school offers many alternative pathway programs including SAASTA, FLIPS, FLO, Trades School Centre and Industrial Pathways.
JPSS became the first SAASTA country site and was officially opened on February 13 2009, which coincided with National Sorry Day.
Port Pirie is located on the Spencer Gulf and is approximately 240kms north of Adelaide. The population of Port Pirie is around 22,000, which also includes surrounding townships. Port Pirie is a close-knit community with a strong sporting culture.
There is a SAASTA program operating in this school that supports young Aboriginal people to complete their SACE. Students study Integrated Learning – Power Cup, Physical Education and Certificate II in Community Recreation as part of their SAASTA program.
In 2010 there will be a John Pirie Boys and a Girls team and it is their third year of involvement in the Power Cup.
John Pirie Girls team made the Final in 2008 and then went one better in 2009 by winning the Power Cup Grand Final

Power stops in on Port Pirie

The Aboriginal Power Cup team from John Pirie Secondary School were visited by the Port Adelaide Football Club this week. The students were the latest to meet and hear from PAFC legends Gavin Wanganeen and Russell Ebert.
