About Coober Pedy Area School

Competing for the second time in 2010, Coober Pedy Area School has the longest distance to travel of any school competing in this year's competition.

Coober Pedy Area School is a complex and unique school in the outback of South Australia. It incorporates a child parent centre, Community Library and a swimming pool. Students represent 49 different cultures, with one-third of the enrolment being made up of Aboriginal students.

Coober Pedy Area School students learned a great deal from being involved in the Power Cup last year. The students made new friends, gathered lots of information, had a lot of fun and kept the medical staff very busy.

The South Australian Aboriginal Sports Training Academy supports students to reach their academic, community, social and sporting aspirations. Students study Integrated Learning – Power Cup and Certificate II in Community Recreation as part of their SAASTA program.

With the help of students from Oodnadatta and a girl from Gepps Cross Girls High, Coober Pedy will be entering a Boys team and a Girls team in 2010 and are looking forward to greater success this year.
