Windsor Gardens Vocational College - Windsor Gardens surprise Mots with tricky football shots

The Port Adelaide Football Club held its second Aboriginal Power Cup (APC) visit on Friday 11 March to Windsor Gardens Vocational College. The team, headed by Power player Daniel (Mots) Motlop, was greeted by the students with a healthy meal and drink, which is part of the subject for APC.

After we introduced ourselves, we had each student introduce themselves and tell us their language group/s and where they come from. We feel this is a very important part of the program, as it helps students identify who they are and where they come from, which is important when we discuss connections.

We then began the lesson on Goal Setting. The students were asked to write out their goals and career aspirations and in return Daniel, Amy Rogerson and Paul (Pauly) Vandenbergh discussed their goals and career aspirations.

After the goal setting session, we discussed the P-Plate program and the life/work skillsactivities in the APC booklet, and explained the job opportunities that will be available to them through APC. We further reiterated to the students the benefits of being involved in the APC program and having access to these services and opportunities and to make the most of this year.

We finalised the class room session and ventured outside for some football drills and skills. We divided the group in half and explained that each group had to come up with their own drill and then explain it to the rest of the group. This worked really well, with the students providing a variety of drills that included handballing and kicking.

The days finished with both the girls and boys taking on Mots in some goal kicking. A few of the students showed some high level kicking ability and even managed to produce some trick shots that surprised Mots.
