Whyalla Combined - Whyalla combined news

< < Back

On the 30th of April the Whyalla combined squad held their first SAASTA launch at Roopena Football Club. The students had a training session with Peter Burgoyne at Bennett Oval. Peter taught some of the students how to handball and kick the footy. After we had our training we went over to the clubrooms where our coach Gilbert Taylor was cooking our BBQ. While everyone waited for their meal, Peter and the SAASTA students posed for photos. Once everyone had their meals, the students got a shirt each and waited for Miss Kirk to read her speech. Everyone had a chat until Miss Kirk was ready to read her speech and present the SAASTA students with their certificates and posed for one big group photo.

There were family, friends and community representatives present; there were approximately eighty guests at the launch. Andrew Smith, the SAASTA official, spoke about the Power Cup Carnival just to brief the family, friends and community representatives.

Overall it was a fun launch and great opportunity to meet an AFL player. I felt very proud to be wearing my team shirt and to be awarded my certificate in front of my family and friends.
