Port Augusta Secondary School - Ebo and Marlon provide encouragement to Pt Augusta APC team

< < Back

Port Augusta Secondary School is the latest school to get a visit from Power players in the lead up to this year's Aboriginal Power Cup. They were lucky enough to have a chance to hear from not just one, but two of the Power's young guns - Brett Ebert and Marlon Motlop. In an added bonus, they also were visited by two Adelaide Thunderbird netballers - Kate Beveridge and Mel Rowland. The Thunderbirds have a close relationship with the Power, so the girls were more than happy to tag along for this visit.

The students got to hear from each of the athletes - where they've come from, how long they've been playing at the highest level, what their plans are for the future. Marlon's story held particular interest for the students, including his childhood years in Darwin, and then having to move interstate to follow his dream of being an AFL footballer. And even though the APC is a football program, there are a few keen netballers in this group, so they were just as excited to hear from Kate and Mel.

After a group discussion on the importance of goal setting and career pathways, the boys and girls lead Brett and Marlon out onto the oval where they worked on a few drills. Brett took goal kicking practice with the boys, whilst Marlon worked on kicking and handballs with the girls. The session finished with dribbling shots from the pocket for both boys and girls - quite a few went through the big sticks so we know this group from Pt Augusta is a talented group!
