Murray Bridge High School - Murraylands All-stars set to play Power Cup

< < Back

This year Murray Bridge High School joined the Power Cup SAASTA programme of 2010. We voted on our name as the Murraylands All-stars. All through our aim of this is to be ready to play in the nine a side footy carnival. We actually joined to help keep our indigenous students to stay at school trying to do well at the same time. We get points for good grades and attendance and we all need to be at school for at least 80% of the time. We have our own rules in our team in which we all made up. Then we have consequences for which we get if we don't abide by them. The main one is we get push-ups and sit-ups if we swear.

Our team of students are in charge of everything in this Power Cup. So, along the way we have deadlines we have to meet with certain things like our Guernsey design, choosing our coaches and trainers, training schedule, team song, team rules and launching the Power Cup.

In our training sessions we work hard on our skills and fitness mainly, but one thing we are also working hard on is how to work well as a team. We also need to work hard on keeping focus.

We chose our coach, trainer, photographer and mentor as a team and then we wrote them each a letter asking them if they would have the time to fulfil these duties. Our coach is Uncle Joffre Pearce, our trainer is Mac Hayes, our photographer is Dave Leane and our mentor is Uncle Stevie Sumner.

In the process of choosing our Guernseys design we got our players to each make a design then have a vote on paper from 1 to 4 for which we thought was the best. Our design's background is yellow.

The games we will be playing are nine a side and will be on really small ovals with thirds. The rules are that each half someone new has to be in a third and the three in the forward lines are the only people who can kick a goal. The games are very short and will be very quick paced.
