Fremont Elizabeth City High & Kaurna Plains Schools - Krakouer cruises to Kaurna Plains for a visit

< < Back

Last week Gavin Wanganeen, Nathan Krakouer and Russell Ebert travelled to Kaurna Plains Aboriginal School to visit the students from Kaurna Plains and Fremont Secondary School as part of the lead up to the Aboriginal Power Cup. The two schools are combining to create one team for the APC.

These great players from past and present were there to talk about the importance of goal setting - not only in school but also during the Aboriginal Power Cup and in the future. Career pathways were also discussed. Krakouer told the students how in his home town of South Mt Barker, WA all of his family and friends weren't motivated to play sport or get jobs so he chose to play football and make something of himself. He worked hard and had to leave his family and friends to come over here to now be named in the squad and play every weekend for the Power. The Fremont/ Kaurna Plains boys were inspired as they all loved playing sports; football being the most popular.

As our discussion finished up, players and students made their way to the oval to practice some drills and skills with the help of their visitors. The boys and girls were separated so they could demonstrate the drills they have designed and show them off. The girls knew what they were doing with handballing and kicking and the boys were demonstrating their marking, kicking and handballing which most of the boys knew really well from their own footy practice.

These students sure look ready to compete in this year's Aboriginal Power Cup and we can't wait to see them play!
